Sean Doran is the Founding Partner of Supernova Law PLLC, where he empowers mission-driven organizations, entrepreneurs, and investors to leverage businesses as a force for good.

Before founding Supernova Law, Sean Doran spent more than 15 years at top-ranked law firms in Silicon Valley, Boston, and DC. Most recently, he served as Pro Bono Managing Attorney at Goodwin Procter LLP, where he led the firm’s global transactional pro bono program supporting high-impact nonprofits and social entrepreneurs. Previously, Sean was Counsel in Goodwin’s Private Equity group, representing innovative companies and investors in complex legal transactions, with a particular focus on Climate Tech. His deep commitment to this field led to his appointment to the Leadership Committee of Goodwin’s Climate Tech Incubator, where he helped advance the firm’s climate innovation practice.

Earlier in his career, Sean represented venture-backed technology companies and investors at Morrison & Foerster LLP in Silicon Valley and worked closely with early-stage founders at the Cambridge Innovation Center (via Edwards Wildman Palmer LLP, now Troutman Pepper Locke) in Boston. These experiences gave Sean a firsthand understanding of the opportunities and challenges start-ups face, and the practical insight to help his clients anticipate and avoid common legal and strategic pitfalls as they grow.

Sean advises clients through every stage of the business lifecycle — from formation and early-stage financings, to strategic growth, to corporate exits via mergers and acquisitions — helping leaders align their governance structures with their purpose. A nationally recognized expert in social enterprise law, he is a trusted advisor to benefit corporations and Certified B-Corps seeking to embed social and environmental impact into their core business models.

Sean holds a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center, where he was Senior Editor of the Georgetown Journal on Poverty Law & Policy, and a B.S. in Business Administration (magna cum laude) from Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business. He also holds executive certifications in Sustainable Capitalism & ESG from UC Berkeley Law Executive Education.

Actively involved in the Washington, D.C. social impact community, Sean serves on the Advisory Board of District Climate and volunteers with No Kid Hungry. Outside of work, he enjoys golf and tennis, but his greatest joy comes from spending time with his two daughters, Quinn and Sloane, who inspire his dedication to a more just and sustainable world.
